Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 7 - Hermit Tree Slug

Imagen
A crisp-gangrenous portion of the slug-like inner body of a tree parasite, and part of its bark exoskeleton. Who brought these to me, a spearfisher, has a name for it, Hermit Tree Slug.   The meat inside the bark looks slug-like , but if cut it is firmer, as a mollusk , and according to the spearfisher, if well cooked, it is a delicious meal. The exterior is damaged, as if burned, perhaps a necrotic reaction to the creature’s death. A healthier portion of it, protected by the bark, has a gelatinous texture that seems to glue the bark to the parasitic body. The bark has a fragment of a branch , on it, the creature has extended a portion of itself, as a thin tentacle that goes trough it.  Inside the soft flesh of the mollusk are branching tubes, like veins , of brown color, they seem to move some kind of blood or other sort of liquid around.      The spearfisher and a large group of villagers have hunted this creature after an elder of the village was...

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 6 - Mylgadilac

Imagen
A strange and huge purple furry sloth on the outskirts of a mountain village, the locals call it Mylgadilac   The creature is larger than a large brown bear , its fur is thick, shiny and purple, it sparks in the light, giving the impression of a dark purple starry sky. It dwells on a wide cave , which from a distance appears to be covered with pin cushion moss of the same purple color as its fur.     Their eyes are incandescent in nature and look, to the naked eye, like two spheres of hot, glowing gold. Their claws are long and thick as a child’s arm , they look as polished silver , although whether they are of this material is hard to tell from a distance.     There is not much that can be found out about the creature because approaching it seems impossible and only an inspection from afar is feasible. The Mylgadilac has caught the attention of the townsfolk for the strange events that surround it and its cave. If one gets closer than one hund...

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 5 - Ramalan

Imagen
The corpse of a strange plant-like creature, rescued from the charred wreckage of a lightning strike. What remains seems to indicate that it is a Ramalan   The bark is as thick as a human hand, as flexible as animal hide, extremely elastic , and reacts to the touch by quivering. On its inner side there are a multitude of thin tubes , connected to the interior body of the tree. When cut they bleed a dark syrup-like substance.   The wood covered by the bark is arranged in knots and braids , very different from the concentrically arrange layers seen on common trees. Their shape resembles that of animal muscles , and they are also feed by the dark syrup coming out of the network of fine tubes.       There are no shapes resembling the internal organs or skeleton found in vertebrates. Instead, between the layers of wood, there is a multitude of hand-sized spheres , which are made by hundreds of thin tubes, the same ones that carry the black syrup, wrapped ar...

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 4 - Ciafilo

Imagen
A live example of a very elusive specimen, a large one-eyed bird, known by the locals of the village where it was captured as Ciafilo           The Ciafilo is a large black and white bird , about the size of a medium-sized dog, with one yellow eye and an astounding crown of feathers that react to sound.   All its feathers have an almost metallic coloration, which gives them certain reflective quality. They are incredibly durable and flexible and even fire does not damage them.   Its beak is of a copper like material, and has six small holes from which a golden steam seems to emanate.     The people of the far western village, where the Ciafilo was captured, say that the bird is responsible for the strange behavior displayed by the inhabitants of their region in winter . According to them the bird, fleeing from the cold, is attracted by the warmth of the town, and in its presence, a golden mist begins to overtake the streets....

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 3 - Black and Purple Corals

Imagen
Fishermen brought back a dozen young bodies of extremely deformed and diseased flying winged snakes, specimens sought after for the catalyzing properties of their blood. The sick snakes have their body overtaken by Black and Purple Corals           Every snake has been overtaken by both corals, in different regions of their bodies. Where the corals meet, the skin is fragile and crumbles to the touch.     The poison glands of diseased snakes are crystallized , taking the form of black or purple gems , according to the coral that has invaded the section of the body where the glands are located.       The flying winged snakes are a demanded resource, and from reports of the fisherman hunting them on the high seas, where snakes gather to hunt, they seem to be migrating to one of the large isle of the south . This isle is flanked by two coral colonies, which are regarded as sacred , so it is forbidden to hunt or kill anything alive on its ...

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 2 - Fire elemental heart

Imagen
Burned and empty bodies, carcasses, of a dozen different animals, and only one cracked crystal brought from the tundra,  it seems to be a   Fire elemental heart   Every empty body has been burned from the inside out, where the heart should be there is blackened flesh, almost petrified or ossified, probably the crystal lodges in this cavity, supplanting the heart. The crystal smells dead, putrid. It does not react to any catalyst. Only with a gust of wind does the crystal glow slightly, but only for an instant. The wind, its essence, seems to be like blood to the crystal.   The veins of the hollow bodies are thicker and more durable than expected. When left alone, air is sucked in and pushed through them , giving rise to a light breeze.   These dull and dead crystals have been found before, at high altitude in the highest mountains , but recently more have been found near villages. The townsfolk speak of lights coming from the nearby caverns , and of r...

Octaria Pulnassea's notes: 1 - Oily Muzzled Blind Specter

Imagen
Pieces brought from the north, still fresh, the third and fourth of a collection that seems to be part of the same creature, the   Oily Muzzled Blind Specter     Flesh regrows over the bone . The bone repairs itself, the cracks disappear by melting away with time. The creature must regenerate itself at a fast rate. Muscle are hard, and on close inspection their fibers are something closer to thin wires of copper. At normal bonfire temperatures muscle and bone become liquid, but when cold they recover their form. A strange organ was recovered from the creature, the size of a human head, run by veins, with the appearance of a strange heart. When liquid passes through it, it freezes it, and the organ becomes extremely hot.   Folk tales speak of a creature with thick, oily fur, no visible eyes, a long bearded muzzle held by a telescopic neck, and spiked hooves that can impale a human torso , these tales also say that it lives in grasslands within small burrows, an...
